Some notes on restoring consoles.

Game Boy Advance SP – refurb / mod

This is one of two that needs doing. The other unit’s waiting on parts so we’ll crack on with this one in the meantime.

It’s not in terrible shape, but the case definitely shows some wear and tear.

Let’s crack it open and get to the gooey (?) middle.

Out come the tri-wings…

… and everything from the back.

What’s it look like on the inside?

To be fair, it looks great! No corrosion was found, everything is solid, and the dials move freely. The speaker’s a little surprising though: it’s not soldered to the board, it’s just held in place with pressure.

Eh, whatever works. We have a nice case for the internals to live in!

NICE. Let’s get the guts in!

A pretty straightforward job; just remember to curl the display cable so it fits inside the shell near the hinges. How’s it look when turned on? Ruddy fantastic!
